« t r * FALL FAIRTIME IN ONTARIO * â€" Plictc ly Ful-O-Pcp l'lKtoj;r;ipiiir Ridgetoun â€" L^rge crowas watched tlie races. Start of the first race of the year with the new Mobile gate. Winner of the first, Lonella Gratton. 2.\7%. FAIRTIME HIGHLIGHTS Ridgetown This week your FLL-0-PEP re- fortcr left behind the "razzle-daizle" •I the C.N.E. nnii headed for the ikullcr towns of Ontario. The first fort of call was in Kent County where the Kidgctown District Agri- cnhnral Society held their 93rd an- â- â- al exhibition. The crowds were ga> and colorful. The atmosphere friendly. The mid- way offered a variety of entertain- â- cnt. The ferris wheel, the Merry-go mand, the scooter ride, the rocket- ftnsation, â€" all did a roaring btisi- â- css. The high pressure salesman thip of the C.N'.E. was missing and this was all to the gcod. The out •f town visitor could hardly fail to â- otice the air of ownership which was general. The crowds on the mid- way, in the grandstand and the throngs visiting the \ arious booths okviously felt that this was THEIR lair. The good naturcd ncighbour- ^lioess of the crowd emphasized this (ecling of propritiorshiii. The farm iquipment display was by Your Ful-O-Pep Reporter the centre ot attraction for many. In this line N. L Turner of Blenheim had a fine exhibit which drew large numbers of rural residents who were obviously combining business with pleasure. In the Tri lounty Shorthorn Club Tent the talk as usual concerned feeds and feeding problems. Your Reporter was repeatedly asked when FUL-O-PEP would be in greater supply and how it had been possible to maintain the same high quality during these hectic years of general shortages. It was a real pleasure to point cut that the main reason that FUL-O-PEP was still a little difticult to obtain in some areas was because of the absolute refusal on the part of the manufacturer to use inferior ingredients. .^s a result FUL-O-PEP is still a feed second to none, a feed in which quality has not been sacrificed for quantity. The Tri County Shorthorn Club deserves congratulations for a job well done and President Peter Cam- eron, as well as Treasurer S. W. Pearce and Secretary I. C. McKinlay can indeed b • â- â-  ' of the club's contribution to the fair. 'HI â€" Photo by Ful-O-Ptp Phctngrapiur M-M-M â€" You can sec tliat we were wasting onr time lookintj at cattle ami other exhibits at the Fair. This is one of the many fine samples of cooking and other exhibits shown by our goo«i ladies. The youpsters were far too busy to think of regular Aieals and con- sumed huge quantities ot "pop"' and hot-dogs. Tlie eUlers did their share in this line, too. but were more in- clined to patronize the booth set up by the Beechwood ^^'omen's Insti- tute where Dinners and lunches were served on both days of the fair. From Ridgetown your reporter travelled across country to Port Perry where yet another fair was in full swing. Here, as at Ridgetown, the atmosphere was gay and plea- sant. The crowds were in a festive mood and the children were eagerly exploring the mytcries of the mid- wav. â€"Photo by Full-0-Pep Photographer PORT PERRY â€" Judging of one of the classes of the Plack •nd White CUib (HoUtein) entries were the biggest ever. Port Perry The Port Perry Fair more than maintained its reputation as one of the outstanding Ontario Fairs. Your Reporter was particularly interested in the showing put on by the Black and White Club (Holsteins) and entries were the biggest ever with a total of 128 and the efforts of this Club is to be commended for the work they have done in improving the breed as was evidenced by the hiu'h quality of cattle that was shown. One of the highliglits of interest was the pony race. Unfortunately our local entries were not able to beat the Leggette entries from Oshavva who have been making a regular clean-up this Season in Fall Fairs. Bob. Billy and David Leg- gette walked away witli the honors. Next year we hope tlie local en- tries will have their revenge in this popular event. It was too bad the weatherman was not kinder to the large crowds that turned out but even the wea- therman couldn't dampen their en- thusiasm and a good time was had by all. Other details about the Fair in- cluding prize winners will be found elsewhere in your paper. In closing we would like to con- gratulate the Fair Board headed by Fred G. Christie, President and ably supported by Alex Johns: .\nson Gerrow, Armour McMillan, tirst \'ice I'resident, Ben Smith, Dick Woon, Secretary Treasurer. Lloyd Lee, Frank Honey. Karl .Martyn, Garnet Cochrane and James L. Crane in their untiring efforts in making the Fair this vear the best ever. At the "We Have a Card for Every Occasion" counter of a large department store, says Readers' Digest, the clerk asked the woman standing beside mt what he could do for her. "I'm afraid you haven't thing that will do." she said, looked all these cards over." "Madam," said the clerk, "we have greeting cards for every- thing. What kind do you want"-"* The woman hesitated, then lean- ed forward and said in a low voice "My brother has just been sent to jail, and I want to send him a card expressing my regret.' The clerk thought a moment, then reached among the cards "For the Sick" and handed her one. It read: "Sorry to hear you are a shut-in.
