Eight hours of sleep, eight hours of play and eig;ht hours of work is one of the oldest fairy tales. Hon. George Doucett, Minister of! Flesherton Majors took their sec- j Archie Buie, Deputy Reeve of Os- the four Councillors to be elects*!,, Hisfhways, has announced that an ! ond game of the season from Mark- prey Township for the last several extra fifty cents will be collected in 1949 on the price of each motor ve- hicle operator's and chauffeu''? lic- ense, making the license co-t $1.50 for the year. The extra iiity cents will go into the Unsatisfied Judge- ment Fund, which was created in 1947. This fund pays persons who were awarded damages in court ac- tions arising out of the automobile accidents, but who could not . ' their damages fcr various vea-ons. For instance, a person injured by a hit and run driver whose iden* '•• was never discoveredT could re 'eiva dramaares oat of the fun.i. No one will quarrel with the prin- ciple of the fund, since it gives the innocent pedestrian or the driver who suffered injury to his person or dr.mage to his car through no fault of his ovTO, a means of receiving financi?! eompesation for the injury or loss. Since there are approximately 1,200,000 drivers in the province, the collection of the added fifty cents TV-ill amass a fund of $600,000 nt\- year for this purpose. However, since the fund was put in operation eighteen month.^ ago, there have dale on Flesherton ice Monday even- ing by the score of 9 to 4. The contest was quite fast, considering the condition of the ice, which was covered with water that moi-ning. With the large crowd present, the air became quite warai and the ice suffered, making the going quite heavy in the third period. "Both teams gave everything they had, but very few penalties were handed out by Referee Grainger of Shelburne. Ken Banks, also of Shelburne. wa-^ the linesman, and we might say here that their officiating was not I of the highest calibre. One instance 1 in particular the referee signalled I a puck shot out from the Markdiile i end did not go over the far goal line \ while the line-man called it back \ for icing' the puck by Marltdale, bur \ the referee did not back up his de- j cision. '' I Flesherton took the lead at the | one minute mark in the first period \ by Chard from Boyd and Lawrence. 1 an(i added another at 9.5*5 by Law- : i-ence from Chard in a pretty play '. when Chard feinted Stewart out of position, passed to Lawrence, who â-  drove it home. Markdale took their first point when the Wodehouse | Shelburne yars, defeated Fred F. Haie, for the office of Reeve, which Mr. Hale has held for some time, by i^ majority of 60 votes at the election held Satur- day. The election was supposed to have been eld January :?rd, but due to the heavy stomi and blocked roads the voting was postponed until Saturday. .As there was less than the number of voters required for a Deputy Reeve, Osprey will be rep- resented in the County Council by only one man this year. Harry Thompson lead the poll for vita Geoi'ge Dobson second, and the otiier members elected were Lewis O. Moore and Elgin McCutchoa, George Morrison was defeated hj tfin vote.-:, but made a good run. Despite the heavy roads, the T«i-- ers took a great interest in the elec- tion and 56 per cent of those entitled to vote, cast their ballot, which is » very fair record, considering th© roads. Reeve Hale had an excell««fc chance this year for the Wardenski^ if he had been elected. The department has stated it will keep the $600,000 fund so raised to pay for chai-ges against the fund during the next few yeai-s. This appears to us an unwarranted charge on many drivers, some of whom will have passed away long before the fund is exhausted, while others, for various reasons, will have ceased to operate a car. The department would be better to levy a ten-cent charge annually, making it perfectly plain why the levy was being made. In this way the levy would be equitable and place the load on the current list of vehicle operators. New Members Of Session At St. John's Erin ven seconds left R.
