- Death of an Early Resident.
We are tired and sad and sick at heart with the repeated calls upon us of late to chronicle the death of prominent citizens and old and respected residents of Acton and vicinity, but it is again our sorrowful duty to record the demise of one of our earliest lady residents, in the person of Mrs. Swan. This sad event occurred on Monday morning after only a few days' illness. Although well advanced in years, her age being 71, Mrs. Swan enjoyed fairly good health, was unusually active, and was naturally expected to survive many years yet. Mrs. Swan settled in Acton with her husband, the late Robert Swan, in 1845, spent several years in Kingston and Toronto, and has resided here permanently since 1865. She was sister of Mr. Edward Nicklin and Mrs. Elizabeth Thurtell. The funeral on Wednesday was largely attended. Six nephews of deceased - Messrs. John, James and Edward Matthews, R. L. Thurtell, James and A. E. Nicklin - acted as bearers. - Featured Link
