Death of an Old Settler.
For some months Mr. Patrick Lamb of this place has been a sufferer from an internal trouble and his death last Saturday morning was not unexpected. Mr. Lamb resided in this vicinity for nearly half a century and enjoyed the respect of all who knew him. He was of a most retiring disposition and refused to accept even the humblest public office. On the other hand he was a very kind and obliging neighbor and in the earlier days when the settlers depended upon each other for help in their undertakings he was always among the first to arrive at his neighbor's farm to assist. Mr. Lamb was born in Longford county, Ireland, in the year 1818, came to this township with his parents sixty years ago and settled between Georgetown and Stewarttown. Two or three years later they settled at Silvercreek where they spent some nine years. About the year 1843 the old folks moved to the farm on the fifth line, at present occupied by Mr. Michael Lamb, their youngest son, and deceased took up the farm in the second concession, where he resided until about a year ago, when he retired and came to spend his remaining years in Acton. Mr. Lamb was married twice, there were two daughters in the first family and three sons and two daughters in the second. Mr. Lamb's second wife died about ten years ago. He was a life long Reformer and often prided himself that he had never cast a Conservative vote in his life. Mr. Lamb was a prominent member of St. Joseph's church. His funeral on Monday morning was largely attended.
