Death of John Stewart, Sr.
For months Mr. John Stewart of lot 22, con. 2, Esquesing, had been ailing, and, although at times he rallied his strength was not renewed, and last Wednesday morning, after a period of great weakness extending over several days, he peacefully passed away. The allotted duration of life had been passed, the old gentleman having reached seventy-seven years. Mr. Stewart was born in Ireland and when twenty-seven years of age, - just half a century ago - in company with his two brothers bid adieu to his old home and came to Canada, settling on the farm where he spent the remainder of his life. He was a quiet and industrious farmer and by his frugality and care earned for himself a competence. His wife preceded him to the tomb twenty-three years ago. Four sons and a devoted daughter remain to mourn the departure of a father who was always deeply interested in their welfare.
