A Former Citizen Killed at Hamilton.
The following item appeared in the Hamilton dailies on Tuesday:- "Mr. John B. Burns, who was 74 years of age and resided with his son, Mr. James G. Burns, at the corner of Queen and Hannah streets, was accidently killed by an H. & D. train this afternoon, near his home. He was knocked down by the engine of an incoming train from Dundas while attempting to cross the railway track, and a leg and an arm were terribly mangled. He was removed to the City Hospital, where he died at 4 o'clock, after suffering for over an hour." Mr. Burns was an early resident of Acton. He married a daughter of the late Abram Matthews. During the gold fever of 1862 he went to Cariboo with nine other young men from Acton. He returned here about 20 years ago and some five years since, when his son removed to Hamilton, he went with him. His untimely end is regretted by all his old friends here.- Featured Link
