On March 11th the residence of Mr. James H. Stevenson, of this place, was decorated to do honor to the occasion of the marriage of his daughter Annie to Mr. John Parker of Eramosa. Shortly after one o'clock the invited guests arrived from Hespeler, Hamilton, Erin, and other places, and as the bride is a general favorite with her friends she received many handsome and useful presents. Just before three o'clock the bridal party entered the parlor to the joyous strains of a march played by Miss Edith Stevenson. The bride was given away by her father, and was becomingly attired in a gown of brown cravenette and looked the embodiment of grace and beauty. She was attended by her sister Miss Mary Stevenson, who was also beautifully attired. Mr. H. R. Parker assisted the groom. The marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. D. Strachan, of Rockwood, after which the guests repaired to the dining room and did ample justice to a beautiful repast. The happy couple left for a tour to Sarnia and other places, after which they will settle down to married bliss in Eramosa.
"In life we are in the midst of death," and what was on Wednesday last a home of joyous marriage festivities was on Friday turned into a house of mourning. Last Friday about half past five o'clock, Mr. James H. Stevenson and his sons were on their hay house selling some hay to a neighbor, when suddenly Mr. Stevenson fell over on the hay, and before he could be carried to his house life had passed away. For some time past Mr. Stevenson has been in very poor health, having been troubled with heart failure. It was this which caused his death.
Mr. Stevenson has been a resident of this place for about forty years and at the time of his death was sixty-four years of age. Deceased was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He was a kind and obliging neighbor, a loving and affectionate husband and father, and will be greatly missed by all in this community. The deceased leaves behind to mourn his untimely departure a widow, five sons and six daughters. They have the sympathy of the entire community in this their bereavement. Mr. Stevenson was a life long christian and a staunch member of the Presbyterian Church. His five sons and his son-in-law acted as his pallbearers at the funeral on Monday. - Featured Link
