THE LATE MRS. CHRISTOPHER
MOFFAT.

Sad indeed are the hearts of all in the house of Mr. Christopher Moffat of the fifth line Esquesing, from which was removed by death on the 3rd inst., the beloved wife and devoted mother. After a brief illness of only ten days, through an affection of the bowels, death ensued, Mrs. Moffat was the daughter of the late Martin Nichol of Galt, and her marriage took place at her father's house on the 28th August, 1854. After marriage the family resided in Puslinch township, near Crieff, Mr. Moffat carrying on his trade as a blacksmith. They afterwards moved to Kincardine, and from there to St. Paul, Minn., where they remained four years. Not liking the place they came back to Ontario, when Mr. Moffat bought the farm of the late Thomas Lamb, Esquesing, where Mrs. Moffat died. Deceased had a family of seven sons and one daughter, six of the sons being now living. She was a devout Christian woman, and much respected by a large circle of friends and neighbors. She was one of the most hospitable of nature's noble women. Not only were friends accorded a cordial welcome, but the poor and unfortunate always had their wants supplied by her generous hand. Four of the sons, Richard, Martin, James and Christopher reside in St. Paul, the other two - Thomas on a farm adjoining that of his father, and John at home. The family was always a happy one, and all the members hold the departed one in most blessed memory. Mr. Moffat especially feels his loss keenly but there is comfort in the warm sympathy expressed on all sides and great consolation in the promise of the all-wide Heavenly Father. The remains were interred in Fairview Cemetery here.
