- DOUBLE FATALITY AT OAKVILLE.
Misses Ella and Emma Inglehart
Killed Instantly at a Level
G.T.R. Crossing.
One of the saddest accidents in Oakville's history occurred Wednesday afternoon, 26th inst., resulting in the instant death of Misses Ella and Emma Inglehart, daughters of John E. Inglehart, of Palermo. Their mother died a short time ago. Now the father is left alone, as the young ladies mentioned were his only children.
They were in Oakville shopping and called upon N. A. Inglehart, a cousin. When going home they drove through the station yard and attempted to cross the tracks at the sixth line, although warned to be careful, as the Chicago flyer was passing through at the time. In the excitement the horse balked on the track. The ladies backed the hose frantically, but the buggy cramped, and in backing the back end of the buggy went so close to the track that the flying engine struck the rig, smashing it to atoms, and killing both ladies instantly. The horse escaped.
Dr. Lusk was called, as well as Coroner Williams, who examined the wreck and took the statements of eye-witnesses. An inquest was deemed unnecessary, as the train had whistled and given sufficient warning. - Media Type
