SUDDEN DEATH OF ROBT. CRAINE.
Died from Heart Trouble While on a
Fishing trip, at Sprucedale.

Robert Craine, a well-known manufacturers' agent in Yonge St. Arcade, with his residence at 103 Gladstone Avenue, Toronto, for many years an esteemed resident of Acton, met with a very sudden death at Sprucedale on Wednesday morning of last week. Mr. Craine was one of a party consisting of J. H. Wilcox, J. P. McBride, John M. Lawrence and John McDuffy, of Toronto, who, with their wives and families were in the habit of going annually to Sprucedale, on the line of the Canada Atlantic Railway between Scotia Junction and Parry Sound, on a fishing trip.
On Wednesday morning the members of the party, who were staying at the farm house of Cyrus Lawrence, had arranged to go to Doe Lake on a fishing expedition. Just as they were about ready to leave Mr. Craine complained of feeling unwell, and of a pressure on his chest, and went upstairs to his room. He grew rapidly worse and in an hour was dead. He was in his fifty-third year.
The body was taken to Toronto Thursday and on Friday was brought to Acton on the afternoon train and interred in the family plot in Fairview Cemetery. Rev. G. W. Dewey, of Toronto, accompanied the remains to Acton. He officiated at the funeral service, and was assisted by Rev. G. W. Barker, Acton. A masonic service was held at the house in Toronto and also at the grave here. Deceased was a member of Zeta Lodge No. 410, and Bros. D. Grigg, W.M., E. F. Faulds, Sec., Jos. Pease, W. Anderson, J. W. Shouldice and J. Coville, accompanied the remains from Toronto. W. Cooper, W.M., of Walker Lodge, Acton, and some thirty members took part in the burial ceremony.
Robert Craine was the son of Thomas Craine, and was born at Glenwilliams in this county, in 1852. About thirty years ago he came to Acton. For a number of years he conducted a boot and shoe business in the building at present occupied by T. Morton, barber. About twenty years ago he went into partnership with J. E. McGarvin in the manufacture of trunks and valises in the factory on Main street now operated by John Cameron as a planing mill. Subsequently the business was removed to Berlin and thence the partners removed to Toronto, Mr. Craine receiving the appointment of Ontario agent for a well known firm of trunk and valise manufacturers.
Deceased was married to Miss Lizzie Kennedy, daughter of the late Malcolm Kennedy, Acton, and their six children, William, Dean and Howard, and Mable, Lina and Maggie were born here. All have attained young manhood and womanhood and are a most estimable family.
In her great and sudden sorrow Mrs. Craine and her family have the sincerest sympathies of their many friends in Acton. Mr. Craine was a member of the Methodist church and was for years in official relationship. Messrs. William, Dean and Howard Craine, the sons, Mr. Thos. Kennedy, Registrar, Parry Sound; Messrs. J. H. Wilcox and F. H. Smyth, Toronto, attended the funeral here.
