- Mr. Chapman Loses Only Brother.
The Ripley Express says: "H. P. Chapman is dead, and by his death Ripley loses a good citizen. He has been in poor health for a long time and his death was therefore, not unexpected. He was born in Gravesend, England, in 1851, but his boyhood days were spent in Tiverton where he formerly lived. In 1879 he started the Ripley book store, to which he added a conveyancing and notary public practice. He leaves a widow and two children, John Henry and Florence Ada, also a brother, William J. of Acton, and two sisters, Mrs. McMillan, of Markdale, and Mrs. A. J. Pierce, of Newfoundland. He was Recording Steward of the Methodist Church and Superintendent of the Sunday School for a number of years. The funeral on Tuesday was largely attended. All the business places in the village were closed and there was general regret over the loss the village had sustained." Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Chapman attended the funeral. - Media Type
