- Death of Wiliam Carroll.
The sudden illness of Mr. William Carroll from apoplexy was referred to in last issue. He gradually failed until he entered the sleep that has no waking on Friday evening last, the 17th inst. It was a matter of great comfort that all the members of his family were at his bedside during the closing hours of life. The funeral on Monday afternoon was conducted by Rev. Geo. W. Barker and was largely attended., Deceased was born at West Kilbride, Argyleshire, Scotland, and was in his seventy-second year. He came to Canada in 1854 and settled in Esquesing and, with the exception of a few years spent in Toronto, all the remainder of his life was lived in Halton County. In 1861 he was married to Eliza Jane Robinson, of Omagh, the late Rev. James Caswell, then of Milton, performing the ceremony. The family consisted of two sons and two daughters, who, with the mother, survive. They are Messrs. Robert and Walter, Toronto; Mrs. Jennie Smith, Acton; and Mrs. Wm. Jeans, Gloversville, N.Y. Mr. Carroll was a practical engineer, and nearly all his life was spent in pursuit of this vocation. He was a most painstaking workman and was never satisfied unless his work were performed in the best possible manner. His home was the dearest spot on earth to him, and he will always be remembered as a good husband and a kind father. Though of a quiet and retiring disposition he was held in universal esteem. - Media Type
