CHURCHILL.
After more than six months of suffering death came to Mrs. Denny, widow of the late Robert Denny, on Monday afternoon. Mrs. Denny was a lady of rugged constitution and although she had attained the ripe old age of 83 years, was quite active, until a few months ago. In July last she went to Meaford to visit her only brother, and she returned in poor health, and she never recovered. In October dropsy set in and her sufferings since have been very great. She passed away in full fruition of a life of usefulness and will always be remembered with kindliest feelings by those who knew her.
Mrs. Denny was the daughter of the late Peter Hilts, of the ninth line, Esquesing, who was killed in his young manhood by the kick of an ox. Sixty-two years ago she married Robert Denny, the uncle of the groom, Rev. Hiram Denny - the pioneer congregational minister of this section - performing the ceremony. The young couple settled on lot 2, Con. 4, Erin, at once, and with the exception of a year or so spent in Acton, resided there until her death.
Mr. Denny died eleven years ago last October. They had nine children, of whom the following survive; William in Michigan; John and Robert in Esquesing; Henry in Erin, and Mrs. Nelson Martin, Vancouver, B.C.
The funeral was held yesterday afternoon. After a service in the Congregational Church, where deceased was a faithful attendant and worker for sixty years, her remains were tenderly laid to rest in Churchill Cemetery, beside her husband. Rev. R. J. Drysdale officiated.
