One who was for many years prominent in municipal affairs in this township and county, died at his house near Ballinafad on Friday of last week, in the person of Mr. David Cook. For two years, or more, Mr. Cook had suffered from an internal trouble, for which he underwent several operations, which each time gave temporary relief, but for several weeks it was seen that his recovery could hardly be expected. He died at the homestead where he resided from his boyhood. Mrs. Cook having predeceased him by a little over three years.
The deceased was born on a farm below Stewarttown just about seventy years ago. He was a son of the late Christoper Cook, and his mother was Miss Isabella Harrison. They were married in Ireland and came to Canada about seventy-five years ago. It was when David Cook was a boy of about six years that the family moved to the farm from which the remains were borne on Monday to Greenwood cemetery, Georgetown.
About forty-four years ago, the deceased married Miss Almvia Clark. The family consisted of two sons and two daughters, all of whom are now living. These are: Mr. Wesley Cook of Erin; Mrs. S. H. Lindsay of Esquesing; Mr. J. D. Cook and Miss Cook who reside at home.
In religion Mr. Cook was a Methodist; in politics a life-long Conservative.
For nearly twenty years he was a member of the Township Council being Reeve in 1904. He was also for several years a member of the County Council. Several times he was township assessor, and also collector of taxes and about thirty years ago was license inspector.
The burial took place on Monday. The Independent Order of Foresters, of which deceased was a member, attended in a body and conducted a service, in addition to the service conducted by Rev. Geo. Down, pastor of the Methodist church, Ballinafad. The Esquesing Council also attended. The pall-bearers were John Price, Geo. Campbell, W. B. Shortill, R. C. Adams, J. Miller. - Herald. - Media Type
