- DEATH OF MRS. JOHN WILLIAMS.
This Very Sad Event Occurred Last
Friday, 28th June.
A somewhat sudden death and one which called forth the tenderest sympathies of the community was the demise of the wife of ex- Reeve John Williams last Friday. Mrs. Williams was in fair condition of health until Sunday morning, 23rd ult., when she was seized with pluresy and an acute affection of the liver. On the Friday morning following a little baby girl was prematurely born and in the afternoon the mother passed away. The babe lived until Sunday morning. The sorrowing husband and five children between the ages of fifteen and four years are left to mourn the loss of a loving wife and devoted mother.
Mrs. Williams was the daughter of Mr. John Weaver, of Oxdrift, New Ontario, and was forty years of age. She lived in Acton a year or so prior to her marriage with Mr. Williams on the 10th June, 1891. Her home has been a happy one and she devoted herself with a constancy and love to her family. Her chiefest desire was to ensure comfort to all and no attention on her part was ever lacking to accomplish this. Mrs. Williams was a Christian woman, a member of Knox Church, and here her energies were freely directed when any special event called for service. She was one of the kindest of neighbors and was especially attentive where there was sorrow or want.
The sad circumstances surrounding Mrs. Williams' death induced the tenderest feeling on the part of all, and the husband and children bereft appreciate most gratefully the many kind acts and tender words of sympathy expressed.
The funeral was delayed until Monday afternoon to afford Mrs. Weaver, the mother of Mrs. Williams, an opportunity to reach Acton from her home near Dryden. This brought it past the hour for the Firemen's parade in connection with the Dominion Day demonstration. But the Firemen showed the most marked respect in their march past. All the bands ceased playing, every fireman in the line doffed his cap or helmet, and Chief Maw, of the Georgetown Brigade, left the ranks and called at the door to present a bouquet of flowers on behalf of himself and his men.
The funeral service was conducted by Rev. J. C. Wilson, B.A. His message was a very timely one, and his tender words of comfort to the bereft family were very impressive. The remains were laid to rest in the family plot in beautiful Fairview Cemetery.
Among those who attended from a distance there were; Mrs. John Weaver, Oxdrift; Mrs. Nixon, Mrs. Morrow and Mr. John Currie, Dundalk; Miss Morrow, Toronto; Mrs. Edwin Peart, Burlington; James Hortop, Toronto; Wm. Hortop, Everton; James A. Watson, J. W. Knowles, Rockwood; Wm. Graham, A. J. Currie, Miss Currie and H. Matthews, Erin. - Featured Link
