- Sudden Death of John Arthurs.
On Tuesday morning Mr. John Arthurs was out on the street conversing with his friends after being confined to the house for a fortnight. He was out again after dinner and about two o'clock returned to the house and laid down on the couch for a rest. Mrs. Arthurs had gone up stairs and in a few minutes returned and saw him apparently sleeping. She was about the house and coming into the room again noticed that he had attempted to sit up but had his head on the pillow. Upon going over to his side she found that the spark of life had fled. Mr. Arthurs had been in very poor health since spring, being troubled with his heart, in addition to other ailments. On Tuesday morning, however, he remarked that he was feeling better than for a long time. Deceased was the son of the late John Arthurs, of Esquesing. He was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, fifty-eight years ago and came to Canada with his parents when a lad. Twenty-six years ago last April he married Annie, daughter of the late John Lawson. The family resided on the farm until 16 years ago, when they came to Acton. For several years Mr. Arthurs conducted a grocery business in the building in which he resided, but he disposed of it, and for a number of years was foreman at Firstbrook's trout ponds and hatchery. Mrs. Arthurs and five children survive. Mrs. Frank Gardner, Toronto; John at Brampton; Joseph, at Toronto; and Margaret and Mabel at home. Mr. Arthurs was a man of very kindly disposition. He was an adherent of Knox Church. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2.30 o'clock. - Featured Link
