He Was Sheriff of Halton County for
Twenty-Seven Years.
Mr. Matthew Clements, Sheriff of this county, died at his residence at Milton, on Monday afternoon, after an illness extending over several weeks, heart failure being the immediate cause of death.
The late Sheriff was in his 83rd year, and was appointed by the Ontario Government in 1882 on the resignation of the late Hon. Geo. C. McKindsey. Prior to his appointment as Sheriff Mr. Clements held many municipal offices and was Warden of the county.
He was a man of the highest character, and was held in the greatest esteem not only by the legal profession but by all classes in the community. He was for many years an official and a very useful member of the Methodist Church.
Two sons and daughter survive, his wife having died several years ago. - Featured Link
