- OBITUARY
REV. JOHN JAMES REDITT
After a long illness from cancer Rev. J. J. Redditt, assistant to Rev. Dr. Briggs, of the Methodist Book Room, passed away on Saturday morning. He was born in York County sixty-one years ago, and was a brother-in-law of the late Principal Thos. T. Moore, of Acton, Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Redditt being sisters. Mrs. Redditt survives him. Mr. Redditt entered the ministry of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1877. He was pastor of churches at Oshawa, Scarboro', Parkdale, Shelburne Brampton, Uxbridge, Barrie and lastly at Yonge Street Church, Toronto. He was elected President of the Toronto Conference twelve years ago. For the past seven years he has been assistant to Dr. Briggs at the Book Room and was a most valuable officer of that institution. He was a forceful preacher and a wise administrator. He preached sermons at Acton both at anniversary and missionary services. His wide knowledge of the church and his splendid executive ability enabled him to give very helpful service to many departments. He was closely associated with the details of plans and construction of the new million dollar Book Room, and looked forward with keen interest to its completion. At the time of his death Dr. Redditt was one of the Vice-presidents of the Methodist Social Union, secretary of the Methodist Deaconess Society, secretary of the new hymn and tune book committees. He was also one of the Board of Governors of the Whitby Ladies' College. The funeral was held on Monday to Forest Lawn Mausoleum. - Featured Link
