REV. RICHARD HOBBS
Rev. Richard Hobbs, whose death occurred in Toronto last week, was the much-loved pastor of the Methodist Church, Acton, in 1877-9. There are many fond recollections of his faithful work and unflinching presentation of gospel truth cherished by the older members of the congregation. Mr. Hobbs was frank and uncompromising in his preaching and was ever an enemy of those popular amusements which are by the church regarded as questionable. His advocacy of scriptoral holiness and of systematic and proportionate giving to God's cause was unfailing. It was during the ministry of Rev. Mr. Hobbs, and under his wise advice and encouragement, that T. Albert Moore in 1878, then editor of the FREE PRESS, entered the ministry. Rev. Dr. Moore has always held in highest love and esteem "his father in the gospel." Mr. Hobbs occupied a number of prominent pastorates in Brantford, London, Exeter, Wingham, etc. He superannuated a couple of years ago but was engaged in City Mission work in Toronto. - Featured Link
