TWO MORE ACTON HOMES
ARE SADDENED
Pte. Arthur Anderson and Pte. Michael
Kaley Make the Supreme Sacrifice
The sad news reached Acton on Friday that Pte. Arthur Anderson, son of William D. Anderson, Park Avenue, had fallen in action in France on Tuesday, October 1.
Pte. Anderson was an Acton boy and greatly beloved by his companions. He enlisted in the 164th Halton-Dufferin Battalion on his eighteenth birthday and had spent nearly three years in khaki. He went overseas with his battalion and went with a special draft from England to France about seven months ago.
Arthur was a bright boy. He was a graduate of Acton High School and spent some months attending Guelph Collegiate Institute.
Much sympathy is felt for his parents and family in their sorrow.
A memorial service for Pte. Anderson and other Acton boys who have lately fallen will be held in Knox Church next Sunday morning.
On Tuesday morning a message came to Misses Margaret anjd Elizabeth Kaley stating that their brother, Pte. Michael Kaley had fallen in action in France on October 11.
Pte Kaley enlisted in the 164th Halton-Dufferin Battalion in January, 1916. He went overseas with the Battalion, and crossed to France on the 29th of March last. Letters received this summer have always been cheerful and full of interesting news. Breathing through his letters there was the pleasurable anticipation of returning home to Acton after the war. He was greatly attached to his sisters here and they naturally felt that he was their chief support.
Pte. Kaley was born at the homestead on the second line thirty-seven years ago. He was the son of the late Michael Kaley. After the death of his father and mother he and his two unmarried sisters came to Acton to live. Two brothers, George and James live in Hamilton, and a sister, Mrs. McNally, resides at Glenwilliams. He was a devout Roman Catholic and his name occupies a place on the honor roll of St. Joseph's Church
