Consumers now pay artificially low prices for electricity at five cents a kilowatt hour for the first 1,000 kilowatts used during the winter, and 5.8 cents for anything above that. The rate increases blamed on last summers sweltering heat that sent energy costs soaring are 5.8 cents for the first 600 kilowatts used between May and October, and then 6.7 cents. The 11 per cent increase for Halton Hills Hydros 18,500 residential custom- ers includes a 2.3 per cent increase in the distribution rate $2.49 a month for an average use of 1,000 kilowatts and 8.7 per cent more, or $9.42 in the regu- lated price.
