4 THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, AUGUST 3, 2006 By Frances Niblock At first, Floyd Foster thought he heard a baby crying in the mangled wreckage of a car crushed under the wheels of a trans- port truck in front of his Main Street North garage just after 2 on Monday afternoon.Drawn to the carnage by a loud bang, it was the whimpering that stopped Foster cold when he ran to the scene. I heard some noise I thought it was a baby actu- ally, but then I realized it was a dog. We ripped the door off and grabbed the dog and one guy ran with it to the vet, but he died a little pup, a beautiful little white pup, Foster said, still shaken by the incident the next day. I checked her (the wom- an driver.) She had a pulse and I talked to her. They first thing she said was how is my little doggie? and I told her it was okay, Foster said, speculating the dog may have played a role in the crash because its leash was laying across the womans lap and she didnt have her seatbelt on. Fosters son Norm called 911 and began talking to the injured woman until emergency officials arrived to transport her to hospi- tal. The truck driver was shaken and, but not injured enough to require hospital- ization. The truck driver said he thought the truck was go- ing to roll over it bounced so high when it went over the car. It took the whole front end off the car and rippped it right apartboth airbags were out and the roof was ripped right out 1151 Bronte Road, Oakville, Ontario L6M 3L1 Tel: 905-825-6000 Toll Free: 1-866-4HALTON TTY: 905-827-9833 www.halton.ca Municipality of Halton The Regional Tanner Curb Appeal Due to the Civic Holiday, waste collection services the week of August 7 will take place the day after your regular collection day. Foster said after the am- bulance left, his son began to sweep up the glass and debris from the street in hopes that traffic, backed up in both directions as far as you could see, would begin moving again, but police kept the road closed for much longer than Foster thought was necessary. Halton police said the driver of the car, a 22-year- old woman who had just moved back to Acton, was treated and released from Milton hospital. She had just left the vets and was southbound on Main Street, attempting to turn left onto St. Albans Drive, when the accident occurred. Police said charges are pending against her under the Highway Traffic Act. Asked about Arnotts loca- tion on Monday, Halton Acting Inspector Joe Baker said he believed she had been transferred to a long- term care facility somewhere within our borders. Barker said once the courts deal with the issue, Arnott would be able to say where she wants to live. As I understand it, she doesnt fear them (her next of kin) so shes going to want contact with them again, so I dont think that they will make it unreason- ably harsh on her by moving her some great distance away from the community that shes grown to know, Barker said.
