The structure is about 40x20 feet with a roof height of 20 ft. at its highest point in a location at the parks point. It is oriented to the northeast so it doesnt disrupt use of the ball diamonds or the track. Construction is being done by Peter Schmuki Construction Ltd. and expected to be completed in late Fall. ????? ???????? ???????????????? ???????? ?????? There is a large advertise- ment in The New Tanner today with lots of informa- tion about our open house, registrations, programs and other interesting informa- tion. We hope to see lots of new faces during the up- coming Fall season. This is a great opportunity for you to drop in, have a coffee, and see what we have to offer. If you should decide to join, the membership fee is pro-rated until the end of December and will include 2007. All regular members should renew by December 31 each year. Anyone who is 55 or older is encouraged to join. Dont forget anyone born in either August or Sep- tember is invited to the bi-monthly birthday tea. You should receive a phone call inviting you and a guest, but if you are missed out for some reason, please take this as your invite. It will be held on September 12 at 2p.m. There is a lot of interest in the digital camera classes starting on Tuesday, Sep- tember 19 from 7 to 8:30p. m. It will run for six weeks, and should help you gain confidence, and learn how to get the most from your camera, and computer. If you are interested sign up at the Centre, and show up on the night with your camera and questions. Who says You cant teach an old dog new tricks. We seniors are always ready to learn and keep up with modern technology. Dont forget to pick up your latest newsletter. There are lots of interesting things in it this month. I find the list of phone numbers of committee and board members invaluable. It saves me trying to read the small print in the telephone books. I dont know if it is just me, but the printing seems to get smaller every time I receive a new direc- tory. On the August 30 trip to Rama, Ruth Burke had a slight mishap and dislo- cated her hip. Ruth is the person who gets the Rama trips organized with the help of the travel commit- tee. She spent the night in the hospital in Orillia, but is now home. We wish her well. Hopefully we will see her back playing cards shortly. Thinking of cards, Edna Ellis had the only Mooner at the last bid euchre game. There will be another evening game of euchre on Wednesday, September 18 at 7:15p.m. Help is sti l l needed organizing the second Rock-a-thon. There will be two rocking chairs in use through out the two days starting on Friday, Septem- ber 29 at 9a.m. finishing at 9p.m. on Saturday, Septem- ber 30. There are still a few tick- ets available for the Fall dinner on Friday, Septem- ber 15 at 6p.m. There is a list up for any- one who might be interested New panelist at writers Festival Sandra Sabatini will replace Leah McLaren as a panelist for the Saturday seminar of the Eden Mills Writers Festival, which takes place on September 9, 2006 from 1p.m. until 6p.m. at Camp Edgewood, Eden Mills. Sabatinis recent book of short stories, The Dolphins at Ste. Marie (Penguin Canada), has received critical acclaim, and the author is currently working on her first novel. Sabatini is also reading on Sunday. An offshoot of the popular Sunday festival, the Saturday Semi- nar has been growing in attendance each year. This years theme, Write the Story Tell the Story Illustrate the Story, focuses on the different elements of story, featuring poet and novelist Nicole Brossard, short-story writer Sabatini, cartoonist Gareth Lind, and storyteller Dan Yashinsky. Large- and small-group discussions are followed by a reception, allowing participants to mingle with the panel members in an informal setting. This is a great way of taking in the event, with out the worry of driving and parking. I know its been a long time since I was last at the Royal Winter Fair, but it is always interesting.
