Acton Home Hardware 519-853-1730 Buzz for Ben day raises over $1,500 to fight MD Hurricane Ernesto could not dampen the determi- nation of the five young brothers who weathered the storm to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy last weekend. Despite heavy rains and their screened tent cart-wheeling down Hwy 7 due to winds, the Buzz for Ben was an overwhelming success! A caring and generous Acton helped Noah Mac- Donald and his brothers Jesse, Aaron, Elijah and Jonah raise over $1,500 on that wet day. Mandy Dixon of Mandys Hair Creation lifted off the locks of the boys and other determined supporters. People came by and dropped off donations and enjoyed what may be the dampest BBQ of the sea- son. A grateful MacDonald family would like to thank their friends who helped volunteer, Father Bob Bul- brook and St. Josephs parish for their constant support. A special thank you to Mandy Dixon, M&Ms Meat Shop, Prosperity One, the Acton Fire Dept., A Taste of Italy Restaurant and Brians Food Basics. Without hesitation these boys took off their hair be- fore heading back to school. The youngest, Jonah, though, has decided he wants to have his hair back, please. ???????????????????????????????????? Continued from page 1 raising goal of $350,000 and now have $466,744 in com- mitments in just under three months of fundraising. The total fundraising goal over three years is $750,000. Brown said they have re- ceived more money than theyve asked for, and so far, have not had one refusal. That is very unusualyou expect to be turned down by some people that you ask Brown said adding they have received $10,000 in cash, have $80,000 in signed com- mitments and have made requests for an additional $150,000. Weve also identified an- other $400,000 in asks that we that were going to be making over the next few weeks, he said adding of the 36 donations to date, the average is $11,774 a real tribute to the community. Earlier in the meeting, Acton Councillor Mike OLeary said at the request of the donor, the name of the company that pledged an additional $80,000 on Tuesday described as one of the major industrial firms in Acton will not be released for several weeks. OLeary noted that the company had already pledged $20,000 to the building campaign, raising the total donation to $100,000. Council also agreed to waive build permit fees and other related development fees, estimated at under $5,000. Mayor Rick Bonnette said it was just unbelievable that Society fundraisers have been able to collect pledges and cash totaling almost half-a-million dollars in three short months. Based on a timeline that allows four weeks for fi- nalization of the financial documents, site plan ap- proval and issuing of permits, resulting in a construction beginning in early to mid- October with the building finished in May or June with an official grand opening for the 2007 Acton Fall Fair. A highlight of this years fair will be the groundbreak- ing ceremony for the new building, slated for 2 p.m. on September 16.
