GETTING SET UP: The big midway at Acton Fair was getting set up early in the week for the influx of children on Friday afternoon. All the Fair needs now is good weath- er which the weatherman is promising. Buzz over new Fair building... Gates open to the public at 4 p.m. when the midway kicks into high gear and all of the exhibits and displays including the 65 animals in the popular Ken Jen petting zoo open their doors. The heavy horse pull always a crowd pleaser begins at 6 p.m. and Hewitt actually opens the fair at a ceremony before the Miss Acton Fall Fair pageant at 8 p.m. The Essentials will entertain during the Miss Acton pageant. Gates open at 8 a.m. on Saturday and the sched- ule includes the beef cattle show, Junior 4-H competi- tion, poultry show, light horse show, always-popular sheep dog demonstrations and the English and Western Gymkhana horse shows. At noon, the parade snakes its way through the down- town area, making its way to the fairgrounds where there will be a groundbreaking ceremony for the new fair/ soccer facility. Saturday afternoon, watch for Silver Elvis and a group that has created quite a buzz the Fleming Loggersports featuring female lumber- jacks throwing axes, sawing logs and lighting fires.
