Rear facing Infant Car seat: Use the infant seat in the rear-facing position until your baby has reached the weight & length specified by the manufacturer (generally 10 kg/22lbs.) Why? Babies have relatively large heads and weak neck muscles. Infant seats are place back- wards so that in a collision, the back of the infant seat takes the forces of the impact. Forward Facing child seat: Using a forward facing child seat from 10kgs./22lbs. Until 18kgs/40lbs., generally from about 1 to 4 years . Some child seats can be used a bit longer, follow the instruction booklet and the labelling system on you child seat. Why? The harness absorbs the forward motion of the child at the moment of impact. The vehicle seat keep the base firmly in place. Finally, the tether strap secures the top of the child seat to the vehicle. Tips: Place the forward facing child seat in the rear seat of the vehicle. Insert the seat belt through the back of the child seat frame and out the other side. Secure it tightly. Locate the tether strap anchor (generally of the shelf behind the seat.)
