Please ensure your Blue Box materials are placed curbside in a secure manner. On windy days, place your Blue Boxes out for collection on the morning of collection day, by 7:00 a.m., instead of the night before. Secure your recyclables. Stack your Blue Boxes on top of one another to prevent papers from blowing away. Fill boxboard boxes with other boxboard material. Place heavier items on top of lighter items. Flatten and tie large cardboard boxes and place securely underneath or between your recycling boxes. LEGION NEWS By James Hayes P.R.O. Catholic Board seat contested By Frances Niblock Veteran Halton District Catholic School Board trust- ee Irene McCauley faces a challenger in the November 13th municipal election an uncommon position for the multi-term trustee who has represented Halton Hills Catholic school supporters for 26 years. McCauley, who said shes been busy delivering bro- chures and putting up signs in Acton, hopes to begin door-to-door campaigning this week. She said the issues in this campaign will be comple- tion of the addition to Christ the King secondary school in Georgetown, and work- ing to ensure a new school is built in Acton. We have the land south of Sobeys and a new school in the CN Watson plan so, we need to work towards that, along with building a new school in Georgetown West, McCauley said on Friday. We also need to work to ensure our schools have the resources and materials to stay in the top five in On- tario with our Grade three and six EQAO (Education Quality and Accountability Office) results, she said. McCauley, who has been a trustee for 26 years, was acclaimed in the last elec- tion and faced a challenger in the 2000 vote. Im looking forward to campaigning to let parents know what I will do for their children. I absolutely love this job and I have dedicated myself to the education of the children in the Catholic school. Challenger Rosanna Palm- ieri, a mother of four from Georgetown with 18 years experience on elementary and secondary school parent councils, said she is running to give people a choice. People want to have someone that they can ap- proach. They want to have someone in touch with the issues of todays families. The feeling out there is that they (voters) are happy that there is a choice out there now, Palmieri said on Friday. She said parents are concerned with provincially- driven spending cutbacks, mostly felt at the elemen- tary level with instructional time. Palmieri said she plans to campaign door-to-door in Acton in the coming weeks with brochures and signs.
