ACE ATHLETES: Several Acton lacrosse players whose Halton Hills Bulldogs Midget team won a national title were among the local athletes who were honoured by the Town at a municipal awards ceremony on Monday at the Civic Centre. Frances Niblock photo By Laurence Lafrance On Sunday Dennys Atom AE Tanners came home to play just their second home game in eight starts against the visiting Fergus Highlanders. This young Tanner team has shown that they are capable of being among the top of the league and wanted nothing more than a victory at home and they succeeded. It was Fergus, however, that came out firing first. Two quick goals at the start of the first period put the home team down early. Acton recovered its compo- sure however and goaltender Logan Stamp, making his first start in the Tanner net, was not to let another puck past him on this day. Coach Derrick McIntyre, working with a short bench, needed to get creative in his line creation. The re- sult was impressive as his players responded to the challenge. Forwards Thomas Potter, Stephen White, and Connor Mayner seemed to put the Fergus team off balance while Dal- ton Smith, Sam McCarthy, Avery George and Kyle Crossman refused to al- low the Fergus team an easy path to the Acton net. As well, Sean McIntosh worked well in the corners and beautiful positioning by Dawson Wright in front of the Fergus goal somehow could not quite result in a goal. The third period began with Acton, despite some hard work, still trailing the visitors by a 2-0 score. The Tanners have not been a team to give up on a game this year and Sunday was no different. Early in the third period, Kevin Giordano and Sean McIntosh set up Nick Molinaro who outskated the Fergus defender and scored low on the glove side. Acton really turned on the heat then and a short while later it was Molinaro again from Connor Mayner and Avery George to tie the game at 2-2. The mo- mentum had clearly swung in the home teams favour and Stephen White, with passes from Samantha Mc- Carthy and Connor Mayner completed the comeback as Acton celebrated a 3-2 victory against the visiting Fergus Highlanders. This was a fine effort by every player on the team and great tenacity and team character was shown in this impressive win. The Tan- ners will travel to Port Perry on Saturday for a one-day tournament. Atoms pot 3 third period goals, edge Fergus 3-2 Actons Bantam BB Tan- ners scored an impressive 8-2 win over Milton in the warehouse town last Tuesday, October 17. Bradley Kri led the Tanner scoring parade with a hat trick assisted by Nick Eagan twice. Brandon McCarthy and Brandon Braga also col- lected assists on Kris goals. Adam Amatto and Brandon McCarthy each bagged two goals in the win while Matt Allain sniped a single. Assists were also collected by Nathan Bennett, Amatto, Jamie Campbell, McCarthy, Steve Wolstenholme, Eagan and Evan McMeekin. The AHS Junior Girls Bearcats move to 3-0 on the season with a 29-16 victory in their home opener over Milton District High. They were led by Renee Martineau with 12 points while Nicole Drumm added 9 and Alicia Manuel had 3. The Senior girls did not fare as well dropping a 26- 23 decision to Milton in the last minute of play with Gabby Kosziwka scoring 10 points, Erica Mills (7), Alaina Mills (4) and Joanie Weaver with 2. Acton High Schools Ju- nior girls basketball team dropped its game last Mon- day at T. A.
