BRANCH NO. 197 Comrades, As you are reading this Remembrance Week will be in full swing, and I would like to remind you the Remembrance parade and service in Rockwood will take place this Satur- day, November. The parade in Acton will be held on Saturday, No- vember 11, followed by the service and dinner at the Branch. This year the parade will form up at the olde Hide House park- ing lot at 10:15a.m. We do not expect the infirm to march, but we seem to have too many able bodied members standing on the sidelines. Shuttle buses will be operating to assist in transporting members to and from the Branch. The Branch Childrens Christmas party will be held on December 10 start- ing at 1p.m. Please check the board in the Branch to ensure your childs name is on it, and you have paid your 2006 membership dues. The cut off date is November 7. Do it now. On Saturday, November 18 bar crews chair Tammy Whyte will be conducting a Smart Serve course at the Branch for members who are interested in do- ing volunteer duty at the various functions held in the auditorium. Space is limited, so leave your name at the bar if you wish to sign-up. Bob Service and Keith Andrews are still working on having the auditorium painted before the Remem- brance dinner; your offer to help will be appreciated. Dates for your diary: Dec. 8 Honours and Awards, 8p.m. in the La- dies Lounge. Dec. 9 Turkey Roll, 2-6p.m. in the Games Room. Yours in comradeship, Jim Hayes, Branch PRO. Our next general meet- ing: Nov. 2 at 7:30p.m. (this Thursday). Zone Commander Ethel East- wood will be attending. Yours in Commrade- ship, L.A. President, Annamarie Lowin. VOV POP The Ontario Ombudsman is look- ing into the possibility that some lottery winners were cheated from their winnings by staff where they checked their tickets. Will this news change your ticket buying habits does this surprise you? Julia Roehrig, Acton I dont usually buy lot- tery tickets - occasionally I buy tickets for a big draw. I got the vibe that the problem was with the variety stores, so no, I wouldnt change my buying of tickets, the few I do. Wim Kerkhof, RR 2 Acton I had suspicions be- fore, but what can you do? Us gambling helps other people. I look after group tickets at work and I will be more careful now I will sign them, not just stick them in the machine to see if it is our lucky number. Ena Gibson, Acton Im rather disappointed because first and foremost, people should be honest and every time I look at my tickets and dont win I think, Oh darn. I go to the same store and I always check the newspapers after the draw so Ill continue to buy tickets and ones like the Princess Margaret lottery. Bill Nelles, Acton Theyve been doing it for years and we cant do anything about it all the governments are corrupt. I buy tickets all the time if you dont have a ticket you cant winand theres still lots of people winning.
