By Frances Niblock A former Acton church youth group leader who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting two local young men was sentenced to nine months arrest and two years probation. Gordon Vern Hitchcock, 50, of Belwood, entered the guilty pleas in the Superior Court of Justice in Guelph on November 2 in connec- tion with the sexual assaults that occurred during the summer of 1986, and June of 1991. Hitchcock also faces a weapon prohibition order standard with a sexual as- sault conviction and must provide a DNA sample. He will also be listed on the federal Sexual Offender Registry for 20 years. Hitchcock was charged by Wellington OPP in April last year after the victims came forward during an investigation. Crown attorney Steve Hamilton said the 1986 sexual assault took place at Hitchcocks house and the victim knew Hitchcock through the church. The 1991 assault occurred at a weekend church-run camp where Hitchcock was a leader. Hitchcock, an Acton High School graduate, grew up on the family farm in Nassagaw- eya, and was a Rockwood resident before moving to the Belwood area.
