The lions share of the fund- ing $25,000 went to the East Wellington Advisory Group (EWAG) for a seniors club to be established in Rockwood. The aim is to re- duce social isolation through implementation of social, recreational and intergenera- tional programs. The Bennett Health Care Centre in Georgetown re- ceived $17, 834 for a Memories to Talk About program a project to imple- ment weekly activities where volunteers and residents of the Centre participate in and create a memory book to increase communication abilities. Finally, another $13,950 goes to the Community Resource Centre of North and Centre Wellington for a project to provide free, vol- unteer-based transportation for seniors. Among other measures the federal government is working on for seniors are the following: -Bringing forward legis- lation to make it easier for seniors to apply for and re- ceive the Guaranteed Income Supplement; -Increasing the Pension Income Credit from $1,000 to $2,000 per year; -Introducing a Tax Fairness Plan that will increase the age credit by $1,000 (from $4,066 to $5,066) effective this tax year.
