BRANCH NO. 197 Comrades, On behalf of the president, executive and all the members of Branch 197 may I wish the citizens of Acton a Merry Christmas and a Healthy New Year. The Branch will not be open on Christmas Eve, or Christ- mas Day; but it will be open on Boxing Day from 12noon until 6p.m. Membership dues are very much due; have you paid yours yet? To those who have still not received their new cards, you are not alone; Command is still having problems with the new system. (What wonderful and frustrat- ing machines computers are; if only they could think?) A note regarding gifts for the eligible children who were unable to attend the Christmas party; they can be picked up by arranging with the stewards during opening hours until January 1. There are notices around the Branch, and an ad in the Tan- ner giving details of the New Years Eve Gala. At the price and a ride home they wont last much longer so dont de- lay in getting your tickets. On January 1, at the Presi- dents Levee, Ronnie & The Corvairs will be playing for your pleasure from 2-5p.m. Sports. The fun day curl- ing on Jan. 13 still has some spaces left; dont leave it too late to sign up. A date for your diary: Branch general meeting, Janu- ary 8. 2007. Yours in comradeship, Jim Hayes. Branch PRO. Ladies Auxiliary News Congratulations to Cindy Sketcher (our treasurer) and her husband on the safe arrival of a big beautiful baby boy. Best wishes and lots of joy to the whole family. Last reminder, please pay your dues before December 31. Our next general meeting will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at 7:30p.m. Please try to attend the Presidents Levy Day on New Years Day at the Branch. Wishing you all and your families a Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy New Year. Yours in comradeship, L.A. President, Annamarie Lowin. To the editor, Some people think can- dy canes are old fashioned and just for children. Years ago I can remember my dad breaking up candy canes and sneaking them in his mouth. My father rarely turned down candy. So at Christmas time, candy canes are also for adults, not just kids. Just dont let the kids see you snacking on them. Thank you for your time. Yours truly, Norman Foote. P.S. Merry Christmas Candy canes enjoyed by adults
