ACTON Proud member of the Canadian Jiu Jitsu Association (519)853-2424 Gain Respect, Self Confidence, Self Defense, Fitness & Fun Georgetown, Acton and Milton hosted the 7th annual North Halton Girls Hockey Tournament this past week- end and 5 local teams took gold in their divisions. Over 1200 girls took part in the event that saw over 60 teams compete in 11 di- visions. The tournament began Friday afternoon in Georgetown and Acton and finished up Sunday evening with overtime. Championship Sunday saw 5 North Halton Twister teams go into final games, and no one would have played the odds that all 5 teams would win gold. Acton Community Centre hosted the PeeWee C final which the Twister squad took 2-1 in regulation time versus a strong Orillia team. The Twisters went ahead early on a goal by Allison Czerny from Natalie Wright and Logan Perfetto. They then scored an insurance marker early in the second when Jessica Cutting, Marianna Simrak and Czerny combined to make it 2-0. Orillia rallied in the middle of the third, but it was not enough and North Halton took home their first medal of the tournament. Meanwhile, at the Milton Sports Centre, the Midget BB Twisters were facing off against Mississauga for their chance at gold. Two goals in the first two periods were too much for Mississauga to counter in a shut-out per- formance by North Haltons Amanda Olar. Sierra Pelliz- zari and Lauren McCracken scored in the championship effort by the Twisters sport- ing their sharp new jerseys! Moldmasters Sportsplex played host to 8 final games in which 3 championship teams were home grown! The first to complete the tourney in victory was the PeeWee BB team. The Twisters went down 1 goal in the first to Bluewater, but rallied late in the same period to even the score. Tying the game was Kennedi Her- rmann from Megan Wain. A third period hit on Coco Sultana gave the Twister roster extra determination and they capitalized on a 5 minute powerplay to take the game 2-1. Scoring the winning marker was Hanna Moher from Wain and Sarah Digiallonardo. Following in their foot- steps, the Twisters Atom House League team was victorious over Clarington Sports Shop when they domi- nated the game 3-0. Scoring in this championship game for North Halton were Kylie Ricciardi, Rachel Bridges and Hayley Aquilina. The final Twister cham- pionship was won by the Midget B team in George- town Sunday at 5:00pm, the final game of the tournament on the Alcott pad. Heather Sullivan and Kelsy Eady gave their team the victory, each scoring unassisted in a 2-1 game. Ancaster made the game exciting by scoring with 0:59 remaining, but the Twisters were able to hold on for the fifth and final victory of the tournament. Acton Galvcast Peewee BB Tanners travelled to Elmira to face the Woolwich Wildcats on November 25 where unbeknownst to the Tanners they would be see- ing much more than their fair share of time in the penalty box for the majority of this game. A shortage of players on the ice leads to a lack of numbers on the scoreboard and with a slow start by the Tanners who appeared to be easing into the game and the Wildcats were living on easy street with a 4 0 lead through the second period. As was the norm over the last two games, it wasnt until late in the second peri- od when the Tanners started firing on all cylinders and connecting as a team. The turn-around started cour- tesy of Jeff Curry who slid that frozen piece of rubber under the splayed pads of the Woolwich goaltender on a well-placed pass from Mitchell Brake to crack that scoreboard goose egg Goal number two start- ed as a loose puck, once again picked up by Mitch- ell Brake who fired it up precisely on to the stick of Greg Wells. Unable to get a shot away, Wells placed the puck squarely onto the blade of Adam Duval who fired off the bullet he has since become known for, cleanly hitting the bulls- eye. The Wildcat bench then started stirring when Adam Duval once again punched a hole through the Wool- wich target with the rubber, courtesy of the accurate passes received from Evan Oulton and Gavan Ragan putting the Tanners back into contention. With the play in Wildcat territory, a last minute attempt to tie up the game saw the Tanner netminder pulled in lieu of the extra offensive player put on the ice. For the dying minutes of the game, a wall of blue overshadowed the Wildcat white with Acton making their presence known on the Woolwich doorstep. As the clock ticked down a loose breaking puck and a Wild- cat shot into an unguarded net sealed the fate of the Tanners as the buzzer ended the game. Defending Actons crease was Greg Slowka who by maintaining his composure between the uprights fa- cilitated the Tanners near comeback. Final score Woolwich 5 Acton 3. Team supporters will be with the Peewee BB Tan- ners who will be travelling to Fergus Dec 1, 2 and 3 to take part in the 21st annual Fergus Legion Highlanders tournament. Turn about is fair play, the old saying goes but neither Actons Home Hardware Bantam BB Tanners or their counter parts in Mil- ton were delighted as the two teams trade wins away from home. Some strong goaltending by Andrew Cheeseman as he shut out the Milton club 4-0 in Milton on Friday, Nov. 17 saw the Tanners take the first match. Last Monday, the Tanners hosted Milton and lost a 5-4 squeaker on their own bailiwick. Dayne Black , Adam Amatto, Nick Eagan and Bradley Kri scored for Acton as they vanquished Mil- ton with Ryan Faber and Evan McMeekin assisting on Blacks goal. Matt Allain and Steve Wolsterholme helped Amatto score while Nathan Bennett assisted on Eagans. Matt Kutasienski put Kri in he clear with a neat pass to earn the assist on Kris counter. Lost control Back home, the Tanners lost control of the game and Milton came on strong for a 5-4 decision; Brandyn McCarthy, Jamie Campbell, Adam Amatto and Nick Ea- gan bagged the Acton goals in that order. Ryan Faber and Jordan Duin assisted on the first goal, Amatto and Na- than Bennett on the second, Wayne Black on the third, Bradley Kri and Evan Mc- Meekin on the first goal. Joe Drexeler played well in the net for the Tanners. Wildcats edge Peewees Twisters win five titles in girls hockey tournament Bantam Tanners trade wins with Milton HURRICANE FORCE: It was tooth and nail during the Halton Hills Twisters one of the many games the girls played in their tournament this weekend when three play- ers were in the penalty box, however, the team pulled it together and won the tournament. - Angela Tyler photo
