Halton Atom Hurricanes left Dec. 27 for the Bell Capital Cup in Ottawa and made it to the finals of the prestigious tournament. The Halton Hurricane team has players from Georgetown, Milton, Orangeville, and just one from Acton, Josh Kalbhenn. The first game was played against North Jersey Avalanche who got the first goal before the first period ended. The Hurricanes came back in the second with a goal by Justin Brack. The Hurricanes scored another in the third from Justin and followed it up by a third from Jeremiah Addison to com- plete a 3-1 win. Justin was named player of the game. The next day, Dec. 29, the Hurricanes opponent was the Sun County Panthers. The first period was full of action but no score and then in the last 50 seconds Josh Kalbhenn got the puck from Brett Everson and scored just before the buzzer rang. In the second period Josh Kalbhenn got a pass from Teagan Gillian and again put the puck in. The third period had goals put in by Justin Brack, Chris Poletek and Cordell James. Sun County ended up with just one more goal and the game ended 5-1 for the Hurricanes. Josh Kalbhenn received the player of the game. Second game for this day was against Cleveland Bar- ons. Halton scored first with a great goal by Jesse Baird. Cleveland answered back with a goal and the first period ended. In the second period Halton answered back with a goal by Jessie Baird assisted by Chris Poletek. The boys fought hard in the third and did not allow any more goals; they won 2-1. Jessie Baird was named player of the game. Play Barrie Colts Halton won the division and played the Barrie Colts for the quarter finals. The first period Halton popped in two goals in quick succession by Cordell James and Brett Everson. The second period had Barrie answering back with a goal but just before the period ended Josh Kalbhenn scored with a pass from Jer- emiah Addison. In the third period it was clear the Hurricanes were dominating the Colts and the period ended with a goal from Brett Everson assisted by Josh Kalbhenn and a final goal from Justin Brack. The Hurricanes won 5-1. Brett Everson won the player of the game. In semi-finals On to the semi-finals against the Victory Honda, a team ranked eighth in North America. Halton came out strong with an early goal by Scott Lamare but Victory Honda answered back with a goal in the last minute of the first period to tie it up. The second period saw Honda again take the lead. The Hurricanes gave it everything they had in a fierce battle as the third pe- riod started. Teagan Gillian passed the puck to Jeremiah Addison who scored and the game was tied. The Hurricanes got some great passing work between Jake MacNeil and Teagan Gillian. They got the puck to Josh Kalbhenn who shot and scored the 2-1 winner and a berth in the finals against the Tampa Bay Lightning, con- sidered one of the best teams in North America. The final game was very fast and Tampa Bay scored five times. Halton was only able to get one goal in the final 5-1. The tournament made the Guiness Book of World Re- cords as the largest minor hockey tournament ever. Parents are proud of the boys accomplishments and the great job of the coaching staff.
