16 THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, JANUARY 25, 2007 Chiropodist / Foot Specialist DEANNA WILSON B.Sc.,D.Ch. Thompson Wellness Centre 25 Main Street North Acton, Ontario L7J 1V9 519-853-3460 Foot/Nail Care Sports Injuries Pediatrics Diabetic /Arthritic Foot Conditioning Custom Orthotics and Footwear Home visits Town tells developer to build now, end long delay The days of long development delays are over, as far as Town Council is concerned, for three approved, but not built, rural estate lot subdivisions in Halton Hills. Council will recommend to Halton that Sanmike Construc- tion, the latest owners of the former Debryn-Pecan subdivision north of Acton, be given nine months more to meet all planning conditions and register the subdivision. Approval for the 20-lot subdivision on the south east corner of Highway 25 and 32 Side Road, was given in 1988, but de- velopment has not occurred. Mayor Rick Bonnette, who noted the rural subdivisions are not allowed under todays planning rules, said the three on the books should be given six or nine months to get in, or get out. Bonnette said the developers are probably waiting for the market to improve. Well, I dont think its fair that the Town be held up when we could be putting those resources to other endeavors, he said, adding the 19-year process is a joke. We want to be fairbut this is it, Bonnette said about the nine-month extension for Sanmike, but added, its no more Mr. Nice People. Planning director Bruce MacLean said Council has no legal obligation to refuse the extension request, but the applicant could take the issue to the Ontario Municipal Board. MacLean said the applicant appears to be near the point of being able to register the subdivision. Council asked MacLean to report on how to remove Official Plan and zoning designations from the estate subdivisions, so if their draft approvals lapse, they no longer have an approved land use. Although Keep Christ in Christmas is a simple message, it needs to be said repeatedly in the face of the growing secular so- ciety which we live in. Your article went a long way to explain what the message is about, all of the Acton churches sup- porting it, and helped to make the campaign as successful as it was in this, the introductory year. I look forward to see- ing the campaign grow not only here in Acton but hopefully expand to other communities across the prov- ince and country. Thank you, Jay Raats, Acton. YOUTH SERVICE: Rev. Glen Soderholm, right, and David White of Moveable Feast Resources led over 100 youth and young-at-heart in a Youth Service at Knox Presbyterian Church Sunday morning, part of the Christian Unit services conducted simultaneously with the adult service at the Acton Legion and a childrens service at St. Joseph School. The youth service was a new wrinkle in the service for Christian Unity which has marked in Acton for 14 years and is considered one of the largest in Canada.
