The Tanners return to Port Elgin on Feb. 23 for the third game of the best-of-five series which returns to Acton arena the next night, Feb. 24 for game four. On February 17, the Tanners made the trip through blowing snow to Pt. Elgin to begin their OMHA playdown series against the Saugeen Shore. The almost three hour trip appeared to have taken its toll on the Tanners who hit the ice without the drive that this team had displayed over the course of their last series. A quick two goal advantage early in the first period set the pace for this game which would see the Shore quickly becoming the aggressor and the Tanners scrambling to defend their territory. However a late period goal raised the hopes of those fans in attendance as Greg Wells intercepted a Shore pass out front of their cage and fed the rubber to Ryan Dunlevy who snapped off a shot which hit its mark in the top right corner to put Acton up on the scoreboard. The Shore once more regained control of the game as they launched an all-out attack on Tanner netminders Greg Slowka and Mitchell Christopher who did all they could to stand their ground against the advancing Shore. Two final markers in the third would be all the Tanners would see in this game, Actons second coming via Ryan Dunlevy who secured a loose puck and carved his way through the Shore and once more let loose with a quick wrist shot which would also beat the glove hand of the net minder. Actons final marker would come courtesy of Josh Tremblay who provided Greg Wells with the necessary ammunition to slip the rubber under a sprawling Shore cage sentinel. Final Score: Saugeen 7 Acton 3. Back to Acton On February 18, it was to be the Tanners turn as Saugeen packed their bags and made the trek to Acton for game two in this series. A familiar Acton team showed up ready to play hockey in a fast paced, physical game. Actons first marker came late in the first with Greg Wells feeding the rubber to a rushing Josh Tremblay who wasted no time finding the open mesh and firing it deep inside for the opening marker. Actons second goal came in the second, once more courtesy of a stick-to-stick feed through the Shore defence to Josh Tremblay who beat the gloved hand of the Shore netminder. Actons final goal of the game was set up via TJ Baker placing the puck squarely onto the stick of Mitchell Brake who placed the puck deep into the Shores mesh. As the clock ticked down the Shore were able to breach Actons cage with the man advantage on a well-screened shot. Mitchell Christopher guaranteed that Actons cage remained rubber free.
