Halton Region now has a Regional Forester who is available to assist any landowner to determine whether a treed area on his/her property is regulated by the By-law (see contact information below). The accumulation of snow and ice have made driving conditions dangerous and fire de- partment staff has responded to a number of motor vehicle accidents involving vehicles in the ditches and roll-overs where serious injuries were possible. They have been on the highway and in residential neighbour- hoods. The people involved are lucky to have avoided potentially serious and life threat- ening injuries but need to remember when rescuers are on the scene helping others, they are also placed in jeopardy, says a media release from Halton Hills Fire Pro- tection and Prevention Service. Accident scenes become congested with rescue vehicles, police and tow trucks and drivers need to be aware of their surroundings at all times. Flashing lights from emergency vehicles are a signal for oncoming traffic to slow down, pay attention and be prepared to stop. Preoccupied drivers cause needless accidents. In addition to attentive driving habits, drivers must learn to drive to road/weather conditions. Slowing down on snow/ice- covered roads is necessary. Being impatient and passing people will only increase chances of vehicles ending up on their roof or in the ditch.
