THURSDAY, MARCH 22, 2007 THE NEW TANNER 13 with The New Tanner Sports Yourway Muffler Novices win Erin OMHA tourney By Cathy Lee Sunday, March 11, 2007 was the day the clocks moved forward an hour. It was also the dawn of one of the most thrilling Ontario Minor Hockey Associations tournaments, sponsored by AMJ Campbell. Many sleep- deprived Novice hockey players shuffled into the Centre 2000 in Erin, hoping to just stay awake. The teams consisted of four Erin house league teams, a team from Fergus and a team from Shelburne and Wool- wich. Only the Novice Acton team was present, Yourway Auto, but thats all it took to shake things up. Meet Blue Devils Yourway Autos first game against the Erin Blue Devils, was an edge-of-your-seat game from start to finish. The first period was scoreless, with both teams using fan- tastic defensive plays. Things started to heat up in the second period with the Blue Devils scoring the first goal. Yourways Colin Masse, (assisted by Kaela Holmes) evened up the scoreboard, but hopes were dwindling when two consecutive goals were scored by the Erin team. With only seconds remain- ing, Yourways John McKee (assisted by Jonah Rollins) brought a flicker of hope back by scoring goal number two. The third period was tied by Masse, (assisted by Rol- lins) bringing the game into an overtime situation. With parents holding their breath in the stands, they watched Noah McNabb break away with the puck unassisted, to win the game. Game number two against Erins Red Fireballs, gave the spectators an amazing display of team work and a hunger to score. And that is just what the Acton team did. When the game was over, Yourway came away with a score of 5-0. Goaltender James Clark was on fire, shutting out the opposing team. Goals were scored by McNabb (2) (assisted by Tyler Carisse), Quinlan Stamp (2) (assisted by Nick Percy and McNabb) and Brandon Holmes (assisted by McNabb). Meet Shelburne With two wins under their belt, and an ecstatic group of parents, the stage was set for the championship game against Shelburne. Nerves were beginning to show with the spectators, and a chanting could be heard throughout the building to encourage Acton. As the first period was coming to an end, Masse started the points on the scoreboard, unassisted. Period two had both teams fighting over possession. Amazing defensive and of- fensive moves were made by both teams. Period three had everyone on their seats, as Shelburne scored a goal to even things up. With only over five min- utes to go, Masse scored his second unassisted goal. Thats when everything went crazy. The scoreboard stopped working and par- ents couldnt tell how many minutes were left to play. There were a few near goals on Shelburnes part, making many spectators gasp. Only after coaches Rus- sell Lee, Warren Churchman and trainer Ron Stubbington raised their hands in jubila- tion, did fans know that time had run out and Acton was the reigning champions of the AMJ Campbell LL Tour- nament. Congratulations go out to all of the teams that partici- pated. The following players de- serve a well deserved sleep: James Clark, Tyler Carrisse, Brandon Holmes, Kaela Holmes, Christian Holmes, Matthew Lee, Colin Masse, Nolan McGillivray, John McKee, Noah McNabb, Nick Percy, Jonah Rollins, Quinlan Stamp, Daniel Stubbington.
