They said there are 500 youths in the Rockwood Soccer Club and they are short on playing and practice facilities with only four prin- cipal fields in the township. Lay said Guelph/Eramosa is short two fields, using Water- loo and Londons guidelines of 85 players per field. Wil- liams said it is important that they develop a strategy with council so the club can pro- ceed with fund raising. Councillor Doug Breen said, There is a lot of po- tential for field users with the expansion of soccer and other sports like Ultimate Frisbee. Mayor Chris White said, My intention with strategic plan- ning is to do an assessment of our parks for all uses. He invited the delegation back to participate when this begins. Knapp wants more financial info When accounts were dis- cussed, Knapp commented that council has not yet re- ceived any monthly income statements that Finance was requested to provide, accord- ing to the Municipal Act. Staff was initially instructed to provide these over three months ago. In particular, Knapp asked about accounts 40-100 and 40-200 that total $26 million in labour. Moyer added that they are still wait- ing for income statements for staffs 2006 salaries and benefits as well. Council passes rink volunteer policy Council unanimously agreed to adopt an outdoor ice rink policy, which was previously disputed by the Eden Mills volunteers. Their issue was with volunteers being required to fill out a maintenance log and declare the rink open or closed based on safety. They argued that Guelph does not require this of their volunteers and that they did not want to assume liability. White said Guelphs new policy is more stringent. He added that an insurance company indicated volun- teers would be protected by filling out this documenta- tion, saying, This proves due diligence by the volunteers and the township. Green Legacy gives living gifts Scott announced that all residents of Guelph/Eramosa are invited to pick up free trees on April 24, from 9 to 11 am, courtesy of Welling- ton Countys Green Legacy Program. Four thousand sap- lings (pine and spruce) will By Rebecca Ring Gun Club applies for a Sunday exemption Doak McCraney and Josko Kovic spoke to Guelph/Eramosa Coun- cil March 19 on behalf of the Guelph Rod and Gun Club which is apply- ing for an exemption to a township by-law stating there can be no discharge of firearms on Sundays. The Sunday in question is July 8, which falls on the weekend that the club will host the Ontario Provincial Championships. McCraney said 200 com- petitors will come from all over North America and the club wants to proceed with the application so that they may send out registration packages, which includes a list of restaurants, ho- tels and points of interest around the township. Kovic said it is an honour for the club to host the champion- ships. Grant Smillie spoke on behalf of the Eden Mills Steering Committee, which lobbied for the by-law. He said they had no objections as long as all criteria for an exemption are met. He said the condition that the Gun Club notify all residents whose property lines are within 400 feet has not been met. Kovic replied that no- tice was mailed out to all residents in the Eden Mills postal code but some of the properties in question are outside that postal code, so White suggested that Kovic go to the post office, indicate the area in ques- tion, and mail notices to all postal codes in that area. Councillor Breen said that Camp Edgewood requested the Gun Club erect a sign there. McCraney said the president, Borden Zazin- ski, will go to the camp on Sunday and speak to the families.
