In a briefing to the mem- bers of the BIA whose job is to beautify and promote the downtown Halton Police Services Village Constable Rob Felske who last year reported to the BIA that the Acton crime rate was the lowest ever said he was sur- prised when investigations found so many people who were dependent on crack cocaine. Believe it or not, 10 individuals were identi- fied as being crack cocaine dealers in and around this area one being a ma- jor source Felske said, adding they made approxi- mately 15 arrests. That may not seem like a lot, but in a small town, I felt it was more than neces- sary, Felske said, adding the word on the street is that the heat has been Continued on page 2 SPRING HAS SPRUNG: And what better way to celebrate the glorious spring weather we experienced on Monday and Tuesday of this week than a trip to an ice cream store. Fernbrook gets support from Council A Halton Hills spring water bottling company producer got support and sympathy from Town Council recently in a bid against hinted pro- vincial plans to ban non-refillable 15-litre PET water bottles used in water coolers. Council will write the Minister of Environment in support of the continued use of the bottles and ask the province for a deposit/return system for PET bottles. Fernbrook Natural Spring Water president Robert Elliott enlisted Councils help after a terse letter from the Minister said it was a strong preference of the government that Fernbrook returned to re-using bottles, something it has never done. Town staff said the 15-litre bottles could be flattened to eliminate the problem of taking up so much space in a recycling Blue Box, a complaint from some recycling companies. In her letter to Fernbrook, the Minister said she is concerned with the move by some companies towards large non-refillable, non-returnable water bottles that strain the municipal recycling system. She said her Ministry would monitor Fern- brooks progress towards using refillable bottles, an approach that Regional Ward 3/4 Councillor Jane Fogal said shows arrogance and insensi- tivity beyond belief to a company that invested millions of dollars in Halton Hills.
