Frances Niblock photo Local athletes honoured by Town By Frances Niblock A gymnast with his eye on the Olympics, a Gold medal winning field lacrosse team and national cheerleading champions were among the athletes honoured by the Town at a municipal awards ceremony at the Civic Cen- tre on Monday. The ceremony attended by proud parents and family members armed with cam- eras is the Towns way to thank Halton Hills citizens whose accomplishments on local, provincial, national and world stages brought honour and recognition to the town. Limehouse gymnast Marc Gaudet de Lestard, 14, was the top Ontario athlete at an international meet in Cali- fornia last month, placing third overall of 27 athletes in his level, with firsts on rings and parallel bars, and third on vault. De Lestard, who trains six times weekly with the Halton Hills Gymnastics Club, is a Grade nine hon- our student at Acton High School. Last year, he was overall provincial Gold medallist in Mens Artistic Gym- nastics, earning a berth on Team Ontario at the Eastern Championships where he was the overall Gold med- allist with Silver medals on the pommel horse and parallel bars, Bronze on floor, vault and high bar, and fourth on rings, helping Team Ontario to a second- place overall finish. Actons Bret Allonby and Braidyn Vidler play on the Halton Hills Novice II Bull- dogs field lacrosse hockey team that won the Gold medal in Novice C Division at the Provincial champion- ships last year. With an 11- 4 rookie sea- son, the team had three decisive wins at the Ontario championship in Kitchener, and then doubled Mimico 6-3 for the title. There are four Acton teens Alexandra Galan, Alandra Telschow, Le- anne Briand and Anastasia Andricopoulos on the CheerForce Flyers that were honoured as the Ontario Gold and Canadian Bronze cheerleading cham- pions. The Flyers, who train at the Halton Hills Gymnastics Club, showed their winning ways with a cheer in the crowded council chambers.
