This year, the nomination board has been set up in the games room. Nomination forms are available at the bar, and must be returned to the stewards on comple- tion. Please give serious consideration to getting involved; it requires a 12-month commitment and it is not a popularity contest. To those who attend the election, I wish to remind you that the meeting is not over until the closing ceremonies are complete. Do the people who have been elected the courtesy of seeing them installed as officers of your Branch. *** Candlelight Walk The Candlelight Walk and Tribute is being held on Thursday, May 10, as in the past there will be two starting locations: the St. Albans parking lot, and the olde Hide House parking lot. We were disappointed in the turn-out by students last year; we sincerely hope for a better response this time. In the past we have been overjoyed by their involvement. *** Entertainment If you have not already heard the buzz about the upcoming Legion Idol night on Friday, May 11, you need to drop into the Branch and get the scoop on all the details. Over the years we have heard a lot of talented members do some great impromptu singing, so we know you can do it. We already have a very funny M.C. in place, and three judges, but also will be giving the audience a chance to vote on their favourite entertainer(s). Performances do not have to be solos, so if you have a partner or even trios, who can sing, then come on out and strut your stuff. *** Sports The Monday n igh t Snooker club could always use a few new members. Why not drop by and try your hand ? Date for your diary: Sat- urday, April 21 at 2p.m., the annual Chili Cook- off. Yours in comradeship, Jim Hayes, Branch PRO. VOX POP Did the deaths of six Canadian sol- diers on Easter Sunday in Afghanistan change your feelings about Canadas involvement with NATO forces? Brian Kentner, Acton At first, I thought they were over there for a rea- son, but there just doesnt seem to be any end in sight, and if theres no end in sight, why are we sending people to die if they arent going to accomplish any- thing? Tania Spill, Acton I truly feel we need to re- evaluate what we are doing there and what our motives are. I believe it is important to support our soldiers, but I think some of the people in government need to look at why we are there. Terry Kuipers, Acton Honestly, I cant tell really tell you a whole lot how I feel about the war I think its silly. I think that were fighting a war thats not ours. One of the soldiers that was involved, and may have gotten hurt, is one of my friends brother. Bruce Barrett, Acton The Afghanistan govern- ment must decide whether they are going to do any- thing as well. Its like were fighting a bunch of terror- ists and its sort of a no-win situation. Do the people re- ally want our help, because theres more and more attacks on everybody I really think that maybe we should pull back. Carr appointed... Continued from page 14 these important issues are addressed. The GTTAs mandate is to ensure that all levels of government work together to develop a long-range transportation plan in con- sultation with a broad range of stakeholders including students, seniors, people with disabilities, businesses, and industry. With nine transit systems handling more than 518 million annual passenger trips and more than two mil- lion vehicles on GTA and Hamilton roads, the GTTA will play a vital role in developing a plan to tackle congestion and co-ordinate and improve transit systems across the region. The agency is respon- sible for regional transit and transportation planning, purchasing transit vehicles on behalf of municipalities, the future management of GO Transit and ultimately the operation of the GTA fare card system for Greater Toronto and Hamilton STAG & DOE Melanie & Lincoln Saturday, April 21 8pm Acton Legion Tickets at the door $10 or call Kent 519-853-4678
