I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful Easter. I spent it with my daughter Theresa her husband Kevin, and my two granddaughters in Hali- fax. We had a great time in spite of the eight inches of snow that fell on Easter Saturday. There were 25 people at the Tarot and Astrol- ogy afternoon. Dorothy Wright, who is a member of our Centre, gave a very informative presentation and answered many ques- tions. She did mention that in India people plan their activities around their read- ings. There are lots of things happening at the Centre in the next few months. Hopefully you have picked up your newsletter. One thing that has been added to our newsletter is where se- niors can receive discounts in both Georgetown and Acton. We should all try and support our local busi- nesses as they are always very generous to us when we come asking for help. I am getting phone calls about the St. Lawrence Market trip on April 19. The bus is full, and you should be at the Centre by 8:45a. m. at the latest, as we want to leave here by 9a.m. We will be returning at 1p.m., so hopefully the bus will be back at the Centre by 2:30 at the latest. Bring some ideas for a great name, and we will vote on the bus. Dont forget to bring your cash receipt with you as that is the proof that you have paid. Maria Sallay has started to paint the two Trees which will grow up both sides of the back window of the Centre, and the branch- es will intertwine over it. People will be able to have a leaf placed on the tree for every $50 donated. This is one of the projects of Looking to the Future. We know as the population of Acton grows, and the baby boomers reach 55, we will need more space. This will hopefully help us expand when needed. All donations will receive an income tax receipt. The May 12 Spring Ba- zaar plans are well in hand, under the guidance of Mari- on Storey. If you have some time to spare Marion could probably use your help. We will be having a plant sale (both indoor and out- door plants), a bake table, crafts, and country store, penny sale, and a draw on a wheelbarrow full of good- ies. There is a list at the front desk of items needed to make the luncheon, and areas they need help in. Last year we had a very popular digital camera class run by Victor Bissonnette. I see there is a sign-up sheet for classes starting again in mid April. If you would like to know more about your camera, and getting pictures from the camera to your computer Victor is the one who can show you how. The Progressive Dinner on May 23 in the St. Ja- cobs area still has room for more people. If you would like information, pick up a flyer at the front desk, or check with the travel desk on Monday or Friday mornings. There will be another Food for Fun class on April 24 at 1p.m. Gail Oli- phant will be cooking with Good eating and Diabetic support as the theme this month. Gail will also treat us to something yummy to eat, I understand. There were only five car- pet bowlers last Monday, due to sickness. Gerry Mar- jerrisons Brown team beat the Dorothy Purkis Black team 17-5. They hope to see everyone out this Monday afternoon. If you would like to join them they would be happy to explain the game. Everyone seems to enjoy themselves, (lots of cheer- ing and encouragement). Anyone who joined the Centre recently will be invited to a new Members Luncheon on May 2 at noon. This will give you the opportunity to meet your board members and find out a little more about the Acton Seniors Recreation Centre. All members should re- ceive a phone call updating them on any upcoming so- cial activities at the Acton Seniors Centre. If you are not being called please call the Centre 519-853- 5951 and leave your name and phone number for Carmen, and she will look into why you are being missed. Any members who are celebrating their birthdays either in April or May can expect a call inviting them to the Birthday Tea on May 15. The next Rama trip will be on Wednesday, April 25. Many people say they would like to go, but very few new people have signed up so we can get a bus for ourselves. You dont have to be a member of the Centre to go to Rama. At the moment we share a bus with Georgetown, so space is limited. The 50/50 draw was held on Thursday last week due to the holidays. The person whose name was drawn hadnt put her loonie in the box, so the total should be over $160 by the next draw. PRIZE WINNERS: 1 st Acton Scout troop congratulated the winners of the 2007 CJ fundraiser at the Acton Scout House recently.
