Continued from page 1 Open house for comments on Plan A Community Open House has been scheduled to provide an opportunity for public comment on Halton Regions draft ac- tions for 2008 which will form part of its new Strate- gic Plan. Each new term, Halton Regional Council develops a Strategic Plan which re- flects Councils vision and priorities through themes and goals. Work on the 2007-2010 Strategic Plan is currently in progress. To support Councils pri- orities as outlined in the Halton Region Strategic Plan, each year staff estab- lishes a series of actions that will be undertaken to achieve the goals. The draft actions for 2008 will be made available at the Open House and all feedback will be reported back to Region- al Council for consideration while finalizing the Plan. The Open House will be held on Monday, April 23, from 5:30 7:30p.m. at Halton Regional Cen- tre, Cafeteria, 1151 Bronte Road, Oakville. For more information, please contact: 905-825- 6000, ext. 7366. SYNCHRO QUEENS: Members of Team Canada 1 Nexxice, including Actons Ashlea Masters (second row, third from right), captured the Bronze medal at the World Synchronized Skating championships in London, Ontario recently. Submitted photo Owners of five proper- ties on the Fifth and Six Lines in south Halton Hills will be asked for their opinion on renaming their roads to coincide with Miltons plan to change the names on the south side of the 401. Led by Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette, who said the issue could be very divisive and that Halton Hills should not get involved, Town council- lors voted against Miltons plan, but agreed affected property owners should have their say and be in- formed of public meetings on the issue in Milton. We have a peaceful community and theres no sense in disrupting peoples lives by changing the names because its not only the cost its like los- ing your wallet, Bonnette said, pointing to a large inconvenience. Milton plans to rename the Fifth Line Fowles Road for a WWII veteran, and the Sixth Line Drum- quin Road in honour of a historical settlement in the area and asked permission to mail an information package to all affected property owners about a public meeting. Ward Two Councillor Joan Robson said tech- nological advancements should be able to handle any confusion over dupli- cate names. She admitted being emotional on the is- sue that she said involves an identify factor and a cultural factor. Reg iona l Wa rd 3 / 4 Councillor Jane Fogal said it would be smart to ask the property owners what they think, give them options and have staff report back to Council. necessary because so many people have come forward with donations of cash, clothing and furnishings. John had only worked here for four or five months, so a lot of the guys dont even know who he is, but they heard that he has two young girls, and that was enough, Bickers said, add- ing he was surprised by the generosity. Its really cool. Its amaz- ing, actually, Bickers said, adding only two of the 112 Galvcast workers were un- able to donate to the family, that is also dealing with an illness. Bickers said a social ser- vices agency has offered to pay the Nessets first and last months rent while they are looking for a new apartment. They have lived in one room at a local hotel since the March 29 blaze that started when food was left cooking, unattended, in the kitchen.
