By Frances Niblock Mondays 23rd annual Paul Murr Memorial Golf Tournament was the most successful ever, rais- ing over $60,000 for the Acton branch of the Canadian Cancer Society. With a record 265 golfers, and a record number of sponsors and volunteers, organizing committee member and Acton Councillor Jon Hurst told Council on Tuesday the tournament total over the years is $650,000 for cancer research. It was a tremendous success except for the Mayor and his foursome, Hurst said after the meeting, noting Mayor Rick Bonnette, his wife Josey and Councillors Joan Robson and Clark Somerville were the duffers of the day. They werent bad. They were just worse than everybody else, Hurst said kindly, adding they each received a sleeve of balls as a consolation prize, but not enough to cover the ones they lost on the Blue Springs course that day. We couldnt afford that, Hurst said. See photos on Page 8
