June is Seniors Month in On- tario, and Halton Hills is joining in the festivities to honour the seniors in our community. This years theme is Active Living: Come Share the Halton Hills Experience with Us. Adults 55 plus are invited to join in the celebrations planned especially for you. A variety of complimen- tary programs are being offered at the Gellert Com- munity Centre and the Acton Indoor Pool on June 12, 13 and 14. I will be host- ing Coffee and Tea with the Mayor at the Seniors Week kick-off on Tuesday June 12 at 9:30 a.m. at the Gellert Community Centre. On Wednesday, June 13 at 9:30 a.m., Recreation and Parks Department staff will be on hand to answer your questions. On Thursday, June 14, Chief Administra- tive Officer Dennis Perlin and Terry Alyman, Director of Recreation and Parks, will host a coffee hour at 9:30 a.m. Information and displays will be on hand highlighting the many opportunities that are spe- cially designed for seniors, and the many programs offered at the Georgetown and Action Seniors Centres. So, come out, support this event, participate in the various programs, and en- joy the finale with special entertainment. * * * * It amazes me how many worthwhile events we have in this Town. I cant possi- bly name them all, but here are a couple you may want to support. On May 27, the Gellert Community Park will be the site for the Mito March: Kure for Kirkland. Kirkland is a brave little boy in our community who has a very rare disease called Mitochondrial. The second event is also at the Gellert Community Park on June 10. This is the Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion 20th anniversary tour. Last year a portion of the funds raised helped a local family in making their home ac- cessible for their daughter. * * * * Congratulations to the Georgetown Christian Reformed Church on the celebration of its 50th an- niversary on Saturday, May 19. * * * * Congratulations are also extended to the George- town Lawn Bowling Club which will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in June. This sport is a lot more difficult than it looks. Try it sometime. * * * * While visiting the Civic Centre, stop by the May- ors Artwall to admire the display of waterco- lours by local artist Laura Kingsbury. You wont be disappointed! * * * * Keeping it real! I can be reached by telephone at 905-873-2601, ext. 2342, or by e-mail at mayor@haltonhills.ca.
