Submitted photo Farm accident The Ministry of Labour is investigating how an auger in a grain silo started up, causing substantial injuries to the right leg of a 19-year- old farm worker at Anthony Acres Ltd., on the Fifth Line near Limehouse on Monday afternoon. Police report the teen was working inside a grain bin when the unloading auger was accidentally set in mo- tion, crushing his leg. He was taken to George- town hospital, where he was stabilized. But because his injuries were severe, he was transferred by ambulance to Sunnybrook Hospital. Police would not release the injured teens name or any other details. On Tuesday, a company official declined to comment except to say the worker, who lives locally but not in Halton Hills, is doing fine. False alarm An alarm activated at Acton High School at 10:39 a.m. on Monday after someone lit a piece of paper on fire in a stairwell. Acton firefighters raced to the scene before it was determined it was a false alarm. There was no damage. Tire fire At 4:12 p.m. on May 30, Acton firefighters responded to a call about heavy smoke in the air on the Fifth Line, north of 32 Side Road in Erin Township. They found the homeown- er had a burn permit from the Erin Fire department, but was trying to burn a large truck tire, which is not allowed. They extinguished the fire. Bonfire doused Acton firefighters extin- guished a large bonfire that had been burning several days at a property on 25 Side Road, west of the Town Line. Crews went to the scene last Thursday after receiving reports of a large amount of black smoke in the air. They found the property owner was burning debris, includ- ing PVC piping, during a cleanup. POLICE/FIRE REPORT The Halton Partners for Naturally Green are sponsoring the fifth annual Pesticide Exchange event on Saturday when Halton residents can drop off old or unused pesticides to the Household Hazardous Waste Depot at the Halton Waste Management Site, at 5400 Regional Road #25 in south Milton, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Those participating in the event will receive free garden giveaways while supplies last. Residents can also use this as an opportunity to drop off other household hazardous waste, such as paint, oil, propane tanks and additional household chemicals (maximum of 20 litres per visit). The Partners for Naturally Green is a group dedicated to creating awareness and educating the public about how to create healthy lawns and gardens without using pesticides. The group consists of representatives from Halton Region, The City of Burlington, the Town of Halton Hills, the Town of Milton, the Town of Oakville, and Landscape Ontario. The Pesticide Exchange program will also be running on Environment Day. This year, Environment Day is taking place on Saturday, June 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Sheridan College, in Oakville. In addition to pesticides, residents may also drop off other household hazardous waste, tires, electronics, and items for the Salvation Army at Environment Day. Pesticide exhange
