Former Acton resident, Janice Ellerby was one of the members of the CFB Borden Band entertaining Legion members and other Actonians Saturday afternoon. Janice recently returned to Canada for the summer from a four year stint in Abu Dahbi as a Vice-Principal at the Fheikh Zayed Academy for Girls. Shell soon be heading to Singapore where shell be at the Emaar Raffl es International School. - Ted Tyler photo YOU DONT ALWAYS NEED A PARADE: The 48th Highlanders Pipe and Drum band put on an amazing show along with the CFB Borden Band Saturday afternoon at the Legion. The Legion was holding a fund raiser to support our Canadian Troops in Afghanistan. By mid-aftenoon over $1000 was raised. - Ted Tyler photo Comrades, The Branch mourns the passing of our comrade John (Jack) Ramsbottom. John served in the Roy- al Navy during WW 11, and survived the sinking by enemy aircraft of his ship HMS Coventry off Tobruk in 1942. He was 94 years young at his passing this week, and our deepest sympathy is extended to his family at this most dis- tressing time. A Legion Tribute was held at 6:45 pm on Wednesday 18 July 2007, at J.S.Jones & Son Funeral Home, Trafalgar Rd.Georgetown. At the going down of the Sun And in the morning We will remember them. *** Last weeks chicken dinner was a sold out event with very positive feedback on the meal. Due to the great weather, not a lot of players were interested in euchre. Possibly next time we could have some entertainment on the patio. Thanks to the support group who put this function together. The support for the 48th Highlanders last Saturday afternoon was tremendous , The work of the dozens of volunteers who made the afternoon the success it was, can not be overstated. Their efforts over a very long af- ternoon, deserve our highest praise. After we had enjoyed the superb playing by the Vol- unteer Community Band from Base Borden, under the leadership of Bandmas- ter Sgt. Spencer Linington, we experienced the Pipes and Drums playing our clas- sic favourites, and fi nally a combined rendition by both bands. After the dust settled (and the smoke cleared ) 1st Vice President Kathleen Bevan was able to present a cheque $2,000 to the 48th High- landers, Pipes & Drums, Support Our Troops Cam- paign. Our sincere thanks to all who donated, and again to all who worked on that memo- rable day. Coming Events. Sunday, August 26 is our Family Fun Day and Fishing Derby.
