By Frances Niblock From the $3.50 in Home- craft prize money donated back by the student who won it, to the $200,000 donated by a local company, the Acton Agricultural Society wants to ensure each and every donator to its campaign for a new building in Prospect Park is properly thanked for the generosity. Society fundraising com- mittee members are checking their lists one last time to ensure they get the names and figures correct for a donor recognition wall that will be unveiled during a private reception at the new facility on September 7. While they havent hit the $750,000 goal donations sit at $605,000 building committee member George Henderson is confident we can reach that goal even though their contract with a professional fundraiser is over. We felt we had to get this first donor recognition com- pleted before the fairwere still out canvassing on a smaller scale now, Hender- son said on Sunday. To date, there have been 374 individual donations led by Dufferin Aggregates $200,000 that earned them naming rights for the facility that is officially known as the Dufferin Rural Community Centre. The main tenant is the Acton and Georgetown Soccer clubs. There are 11 levels of giv- ing to the building fund for the $1.9-million facility, and Henderson said everyone will be thanked, including the 77 individuals who won prize money from entries in fair competitions and turned it back to the building fund. That list will be updated an- nually. Weve got a Benefactor category for $1,000, a Patron category for $250 and a Com- munity Supporter for $50 there are a lot of ways to give and we appreciate every donation, he said, noting they have four Outstand- ing Community Builders, each that donated at least $100,000. The horseshoe pits are getting a good workout Thursday nights and Satur- day afternoon. A good place to visit if you are tired of fighting traffic heading out of town. On Sunday, August 12 we will be participating in the Leathertown Festival. This annual event is always a most enjoyable day for those who take part informing the public of the work of the Legion. It also gives you the chance to meet the people on the street you havent seen for a while. My semi-annual reminder to give a call to those who are shut-in, and are not able to take part in the social life of our town; please, do it now. The Branch is hosting the Legion, District B, fall con- vention, on the weekend of October 12, 13,14, 2007. The planning for the atten- dance of some 200 delegates from the 11 zones, and 71 branches in our district is well underway, and convention chair Kathleen Bevan is con- fident that her committee, and its various sub-committees, will make Branch 197 and the community of Acton, proud to have hosted this event. The summer spruce-up of the Branch is underway, and as always we give our thanks to Keith Andrews and his regular crew of volunteers who refinished the audito- rium floor last Monday and Tuesday. Maintenance Chair George DeRabbie and his volunteers, are continuing with the ongo- ing repairs, and painting to keep the building looking its sparkling best.
