He said the weekly testing involves tak- ing water samples from five areas along the beach, and some weeks the results have been way past acceptable levels and some weeks they been over, but closer to a pass. The numbers can be taken out of context, but there is a strong relationship between increased levels of E. coli in the water and the possible incidence of swimming-associ- ated gastroenteritis, Burgher said, adding he didnt know if the beach hotline is well used and is an effective public safety tool. Asked if Halton would close the Old Beach if the high bacteria levels continue, Burgher said they have not thought it out that far to say maybe we should close it, but they may re-evaluate the beachs status as a recreational swimming area next year. Volunteers are needed mid- morning to pick up Meals in Milton and additional volunteers are needed from 11 a.m. until around noon to deliver meals in the Acton area. The time commitment would be between one and two hours either once a week or alternating weeks. Mileage is reimbursed and vacation time is respected! Being a friend or neighbour has many challenges; espe- cially when someone you care about has had a loved one pass away.
